GARY MOORE: Blues For Greeny

BLUES FOR GREENY is a collection of songs performed by Moore in honor of guitarist Peter Green. Gary Moore's tribute to Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green, Blues for Greeny, is more of a showcase for Moore's skills than Green's songwriting. After all, Green was more famous for his technique than his writing. Consequently, Moore uses Green's songs as a starting point, taking them into new territory with his own style. And Moore positively burns throughout Blues for Greeny, tearing off licks with ferocious intensity. If anything, the album proves that Moore is at his best when interpreting other people's material -- it easily ranks as one of his finest albums. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Excellent music. Not only because of Gary Moore’s playing, but because of the composer, Peter Green. The less I can say that S. T. Erlewine doesn’t know Peter Green as a songwriter. Many music fans don’t know that, e.g. the Black Magic Woman is Green’s song. Many believe it is of Carlos Santana, some people belive that it was originally by Gabor Szabo. Just look the list of Allmusic about Green’s songs, and that how many musicians played those. There are other excellent albums beyond this one of Moore filled with Green’s songs and played by other famous musicians (e.g. Peter Green’s Songbook).
