Crazy Backwards Alphabet is an album conceived by Matt Groening and recorded by Henry Kaiser. Heavy chops and creativity from this expansive supergroup, with Henry Kaiser. Included are some hilarious cover versions.Yes. This album is worth the few dollars it sells for if only for the AWESOME cover of ZZ Top's LaGrange - sung in Russian! Andy West - mainly known for his work with Steve Morse in the Dregs - covers Bass duties on this album. Overall, the album is eclectic but accessible. Hints of Frank Zappa and the group "Western Vacation" are heard in some songs. Some songs are intrumental, some have lyrics sung in Russian and/or English. Stellar Musicianship ! Henry Kaiser on guitar is explosively inventive. The two drummers are worthy of polyrhthmic free-jazz territory. Harmolodic bass work by Andy West. Some of the material reminds me of Ornette Coleman's original Prime Time band. Experimental throughout. And rare. Other underrated bands on the SST label are Bazooka ( Medeski-like with guitar ) and The Sort of Quartet ( Instrumental brass sound ). Oh yeah, the CD cover for the album may have been one of the Simpson's artist's first projects. A keeper. Recorded 1986-87 plus live tracks A Henry Kaiser one-off, with drummers John French and Michael Maksymenko and bassist Andy West (Dixie Dregs).
